Philippe Absil received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, in 2000. His doctoral work contributed to the early demonstrations of semiconductor microring resonators. In the early 2000s, he developed the passive photonics platform technology for Little Optics, Inc., Annapolis Junction, MD USA. He has recently been appointed to lead the imec silicon solutions, as part of the imec.IC-link offering. Before that, Dr. Absil has held various management positions at imec. As the head of the 3D and silicon photonics unit, he has led the silicon photonics technology platform development since 2010.
